Trailer Mechanic Requirements:

  • 1 year of Mechanic experience
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Completion of a certificate program or technical training in mechanics and truck repair
  • Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and ABS brake systems preferred
  • Experience with various hand tools
  • Valid driver's license
  • Physical strength and stamina
  • Welding or fabrication experience (preferred)

This position requires that all phases of diagnostics, repairs and modifications be performed while maintaining proper safety and established industry and trade protocols. Scope of work to be performed includes diagnosis, rebuild, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural components on heavy duty trailers.


 Trailer Repairs:

  • Perform all types of welding (id: aluminum, mild steel and stainless steel).Perform all styles of each phase of welding (i.e., Tig, Mig and Arc).
  • Perform repairs and modifications on all styles of trailers as assigned.
  • Maintain allocated time frame on all repairs and modifications.
  • Contribute to the work assignment from acquired experience and knowledge.
  • Diagnose and make recommendations on repairs as required.
  • Complete required training needs to perform role.
  • Operate a forklift and standard transmission vehicle.
    • Diagnose and repair trailer air brake systems.
    • Diagnose and repair trailer electrical systems.



Interaction with Management Team:

  • Work with the service manager to obtain additional training as needed.
  • Notify management of specialty tools or equipment needs.
  • Communicate with management inventory needed.
  • Notify management of any vehicle or equipment repairs or maintenance needed.


Excellent Communications Skills:

  • Technician must be able to comprehend detailed verbal direction and instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to achieve desired results.
  • Speak effectively one-on-one with employees, customers, vendors and managers.
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with all personnel, customers and vendors.


Maintain Technical Knowledge:

  • Stay updated with trailer terminology and products.
  • Participate in training events as required.
  • Stay updated with features, accessories and repair processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety requirements and compliance strategies.
  • Inform management of any training desired to develop job skills.
  • Stay updated with new repair processes or procedures that will enhance ability to do the jobs assigned.


Personal Behavior:

  • Always be well groomed and neat per dress code.
  • Ready to work at the start of your assigned shift in a professional and ethical manner.
